While Too Good To Go offers a plethora of discounted food options, certain items are challenging to find on the app and are better purchased through traditional means. In this article, you will find five things you won’t typically come across on the app.
What is Too Good To Go?
Too Good To Go is a mobile app designed to combat food waste by connecting users with local restaurants, bakeries, supermarkets, and other food businesses that have surplus items nearing their expiration dates. Users can purchase these items at a discounted price, thereby saving money while also contributing to sustainability efforts by reducing food waste. The app can be downloaded from App Store and Google Play. If you want to learn more about the best ways of using it, make sure to read my recent post.
Which items can’t be found on the Too Good To Go app?
1. Pantry staples
Pantry staples, meaning milk, eggs, flour, spices, oil, rice, etc. are quite hard to obtain via the app. And while I do (very) occasionally get them, it’s so random and unpredictable that I wouldn’t suggest relying on this way of restocking these items.
2. Specific dietary requirements
Are you sticking to a gluten or lactose-free diet? Then I have bad news for you, as it will be quite hard to rule out the possibility of getting those ingredients in your magic bags. You can still be quite successful on the app if you’re being mindful enough.
3. Bulk or wholesale items
Now this is a tricky one because if you are lucky and have a wholesale supplier in your area, you can get wholesale items. I happen to have a store like that, but even in this case, the store doesn’t always have something to offer and when it does – it tends to be quite random. If you want to buy in bulk, you should stick to regular stores.
4. Ingredients for specific recipes
This is self-explanatory. 95% of the time you have no clue what your bag will consist of. While you might have some suspicions (check out this article for some guidance), you can’t assume what you will get. Unless you’re following the “clean out fridge” recipe, but that’s the only exception
5. Non-food items
Too Good To Go is primarily about food, so it’s quite hard to buy any non-food items there. Is it possible? Yes, of course. I sometimes see plants (including Christmas trees!) being sold there. I wouldn’t be surprised if other items can be found as well, but it’s extremely rare, so don’t keep your hopes high.
While Too Good To Go is a fantastic resource for reducing food waste and saving money on surplus food, certain items are best obtained through conventional shopping methods. If you’re looking for these items, consider exploring local grocery stores or specialty shops.
